FIND YOURSELF… IN LIVINGSTON!   Have you seen our new commercials?  Two “Find it in Livingston” commercials are currently airing on Comcast TV!  The commercials are appearing on various channels including HGTV and the Food Network.  Both commercials were created to show that anything you want or need can be found right here in Livingston.  We have retail and dining to please all generations as well as every professional service anyone would need. The commercials are aired to remind people that they could find everything they need here in Livingston… for all their shopping, dining and professional needs!  If you haven’t seen the commercials you can go to the In-Town website (www.intownlivingston.com ) and click on the link on the homepage.  The BID would like to thank the following businesses for their participation in these commercials: 580 South, Chari Amster, Jeffrey Dollinger, Dragon Kim’s Karate, The Grey Dove, Kids at Heart, Livingston Camera Mart, Livingston Mall, Livingston Town Center, LivYoga, NJ Ballet Company, Pizzeta Enoteca, Sam’s Fine Men’s Clothing, The Silverstrom Group and The Westminster Hotel.

The Livingston Community Partnership Marketing Committee has also implemented the “Find Yourself in Livingston” print advertising campaign in The West Essex Tribune as well as Suburban Essex and Vicinity Magazines.

Livingston Farmers Market The mood is festive every Thursday from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 PM at the Livingston Town Center.  Crowds are turning out at our new Farmers Market location to purchase fresh produce, pickles, baked goods and more – and enjoy the shopping and dining experiences at the Town Center. To keep things flowing safely, the Livingston Town Center has arranged for traffic to be routed one-way on Farmers Market days.   The BID is pleased to welcome back Ain’t We Sweet, Alstede Farms, Dr. Pickle, High Mountain Foods, Matarazzo Farms, and Sy Griskonis Farms along with the addition of Creekside Bakery.  Other organizations and businesses have had tables at the Farmers Market including Livingston Public Library, Livingston Education Foundation, JP Morgan Chase Bank and Regal Bank.  Table space is free to any Livingston business currently in a commercial location.  Call or email the BID office if you are interested in having a table.

Many of you have also taken advantage of our Farmers Market Coupons that we distribute each week at the market to hundreds of people. We have received some great feedback from those who have participated.  Again, any Livingston business can participate.  Just email your business name, address, phone, a copy of your logo and your offer to info@intownlivingston.com.  Include an expiration date or let us know if you just want the coupon to run until the end of the market on 10/29/09.

Pedestrian Crossing Signs  Through close cooperation with the Livingston Police Department, pedestrian crossing signs have now been placed at Northfield Center and at the intersection of Mount Pleasant and Livingston Avenues.  The signs are there to remind drivers that people they are in a heavy pedestrian area.  Don’t forget to put pedestrians first!

Business Friendly Committee Livingston Community Partnership (BID) has partnered with members of the Livingston Township Council to create a “Business Friendly Committee”.  The committee’s goal is to review current ordinances and change those to help allow businesses to promote themselves with as few hindrances as possible, while still maintaining the visual standards that the Township and the BID have worked hard to achieve.  The committee is presently reviewing sign ordinances that would allow the use of “temporary” signage for the purposes of special events or the opening of a new business.

The Business Friendly committee was formed in the true spirit of cooperation between the township and business community and those sitting on the committee include Councilmen Rudy Fernandez and Stephen Santola, representatives of the business community, property owners, members of the BID Board of Trustees, the Planning Board and the Building Department.

Streetscape Update Final approvals from the State DOT are a few weeks away and we should soon be going out to bid for the West Mount Pleasant Avenue phase of the streetscape!  Look for work on this phase of the project to begin this spring and complete the transformation of the Livingston business district.  It was just a few short years ago that the sidewalks were rundown, bare and unattractive and not much door to door walking traffic could be found around town.  Now the area is pretty and inviting with decorative streetlamps, benches, trees, flowers and even crosswalks – and the town is abuzz day and night with people shopping, dining or just out for a walk, jog or bike ride.  It’s no wonder that the Livingston business district has become a must see stop for other towns just starting on their downtown revitalization plans!
